Join the lawyers ahead of the curve!

I decided to train to be a solicitor as I felt it best combined my love for the law with my passion for business.
I had a number of internship opportunities, but the one that really shone was the vacation scheme at Taylor Wessing. I was entrusted with real work from the start, and even the Partners took the time to explain concepts and feedback on my work. But what really stood out for me was the culture here. From the outside, it’s easy to think of all city law firms as similar, but the people here quickly show you they’re friendly and genuine – a distinct Taylor Wessing trait.

Your daily responsibilities aren’t the be all and end all of life at Taylor Wessing. There are plenty of other things to sink your teeth into. As a member of the China Group, I’ve had the chance to gain a truly global perspective of the business - an invaluable experience. I’ve also been given the opportunity to work on corporate pitches for Chinese companies and attend networking events. Playing football for the firm and running 25km along the Jurassic Coast for charity have been other highlights in what has been an incredibly dynamic training contract.

Ever since I was 15 years old I knew I wanted to go into law, so when it came to starting my training it was crucial that I found a firm with a strong reputation. I researched a great deal of quality firms before making my decision, but Taylor Wessing stood out from the rest due to its focus on upcoming technology and its commitment to the future.I spoke with some of the firm’s former trainees and was impressed by their feedback. They raved about the culture, the open working environment and how the relatively small nature of the intake allowed trainees to make an impact and not risk fading into the crowd. After that, the choice was simple.

I have been a Trainee Solicitor for Taylor Wessing for just under a year and I’m now in my second seat as a member of the Private Equity team. My first seat was in Banking and Finance, and as they’re both transactional seats I’ve been able to take the skills I have learnt with me. I’ve been thrilled by the level of responsibility I have had handed to me. I have been able to get involved in a mixture of deals and been entrusted with a range of responsibilities, from drafting documents to assisting on deal completions. I have also benefited greatly from meeting a number of clients, which has helped build my confidence and made future client liaisons far easier.
