Both Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) as well as South East Europe (SEE) are highly dynamic regions with a total population of more than 190 million and an outstanding cultural diversity. Many of their countries offer tremendous opportunities for growth and prosperity in the years to come. The political changes in CEE/SEE in recent years have given a new impetus to the European economy, and they are among the key factors that will shape its future. In addition, EU enlargement will influence these developments as well.
It’s the innovation-driven economy, the perfect integration in European and global value chains and the remaining competitiveness in terms of cost base that make the CEE/SEE region highly attractive for investors. Sectors, which drive their attractiveness, are:
- Technology, Media & Communications (with a particular focus on information & communication technologies)
- Energy (including utilities & cleantech)
- Life Sciences (including pharmaceuticals & biotech)
- B2B Services (excluding finance)
The first Taylor Wessing office in CEE was established in Vienna, Austria in 1986. Austria being seen as a gateway to the East, we grew not only within Austria, but also expanded into Budapest, Prague, Brno, Bratislava, Warsaw and Kiev.
Today, the CEE/SEE Competence Centre of Taylor Wessing comprises more than 100 lawyers. We advise major national, European and global companies in the commercial, industrial, service, banking and insurance sectors. By operating in specialist – and very often cross border – teams, we are able to provide first-class service in all areas of commercial law and private client business, despite the growing complexity of legal issues facing our clients. Our highly trained commercial lawyers all have international experience.
Thanks to our presence and experience in CEE/SEE we can offer clients in Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and in Ukraine comprehensive services tailored to local conditions. In all other CEE/SEE countries we have long-established and close working relationships with “best friends” law firms, which further enhance our CEE/SEE competence. Our familiarity with the rules of the game and the local cultures in these emerging markets play an important part in the success of the work within the Taylor Wessing CEE/SEE Competence Centre.
