Taylor Wessing named European Trade Mark Firm of the Year at the MIP Global IP Awards 2019

Taylor Wessing has won the award for European Trade Mark Firm of the Year at the MIP Global IP Awards 2019, organised by Managing Intellectual Property (MIP), a leading global resource for IP news and analysis.

The Managing IP Global Awards recognise remarkable achievements and developments within the global IP industry over a 12-month period. They are the result of MIP's extensive World IP Survey, which pinpoints the firms, individuals and corporations excelling in IP globally.

This is the second time in four years that Taylor Wessing has won European Trade Mark Firm of the Year.

In addition to this win, Taylor Wessing has also been recognised for its work on three high-profile European cases:

  • The Scotch Whisky Association v Michael Klotz case concerning protection of geographical indications of spirit drinks.
  • The Teva v Gilead case concerning Gilead's supplementary protection certificates for Truvada.
  • The Warner-Lambert v Generics (UK) (Mylan) case concerning the validity and infringement of a patent claiming the use of pregabalin for the treatment of neuropathic pain.

Olaf Gillert, partner and head of the international Trade Marks team, said: “Our clients are market-leading brands who come to us for our advice around their IP issues. We have had success over the past 12 months for many of our global clients, including leading names in technology and life sciences. Judged by a team of experts who research the market thoroughly, this award is a testament to the hard work of our IP group across all of our offices and illustrates our high-quality service and continued innovation.”

Simon Cohen, head of the international Patents team, said: "Not only is this award a testament to the strength of our international trademark offering, it also underlines the standout work we have been doing on a number of patent cases. The Teva v Gilead case and the Warner-Lambert v Generics (UK) (Mylan) case both emphasise our expertise in life sciences and show the breadth of skill we have across our patent team."

The ceremony took place on 7 March 2019 at Royal Lancaster in London.
