Do you know what ‘whistleblowing’ means?

Taylor Wessing Czech Republic is providing its clients legal advice on setting up a system to protect whistleblowers in accordance with a newly adopted European directive. The EU directive will oblige companies to guarantee protection to persons who report infringements by establishing safe channels for reporting both within an organisation and to public authorities. Among other things, in future all companies with 50 or more employees must establish such internal notification channels.

Based on these forthcoming requirements, our law firm conducted an online survey. Unfortunately, it showed that almost 63% of respondents did not know the English term ‘whistleblowing’ for the legal notion of protection of persons reporting infringements of EU law.
